So far in my drawing class everything we have done has been centered around on object or 'token' we chose on the first day of class.
At first we had to bring in a 18x24 drawing of our token that could be done in any medium. I chose to do mine in charcoal so that I could really focus on shading.
Here is a close up of it!

Next we had to draw the token being twisted, stretched, fractured, tied, folded, bent, crumpled, and melted. This part was really challenging because it was complete imagination of how the necklace would look with these things done to it.

Then we began a new art form called Pentimenti. Pentimenti is known as redrawing over your original drawing without erasing, to forgive or to pardon in greek.
At first we did this with only charcoal and wiping over. You know it is complete when it the composition feels whole.

Then we began to use paint to cover the bottom drawings allowing the top drawings to be more prominent. The goal through this was not to perfectly render the necklace but instead choose a few small parts to focus on. I did three of these.

Then we chose our favorite wet pentimenti and the other two we ripped and reassembled into a non rectangular shape then we had to put some kind of floral design on top of it.

That is also what I did for the large blue leaf painting.
Finally we had an assignment called the -isms project where we had to choose 16 different art movements throughout history. Such as impressionism, dadaism, expressionism, minimalism. Then we had to do research on each one and do a drawing where we incorporate our token into either a drawing from that art movement or recreate the necklace in the same technique of the time period.

At our critique we hung up all of our artwork on the wall and it was so great to see all of the work I have created in these two short months. I am already looking forward to what we will start next in drawing!!
