This semester I am taking a full load of classes (Painting, Drawing, Ceramics, Art History, and Educational Psychology.) But I have been super excited about the work I would do in my painting class.

This entire class we are going to be working with oil paint, which is completely new to me. I have done a lot with acrylic and a good bit with water color, but oil is something I never played around with in my studio at home.

So after going out to get all the supplies we started our first painting, a fruit and vegetable still life!

We had to chose which vegetables we wanted and spent a whole day arranging them how we wanted and using our phone as a view finder to crop until we got to our final composition.

I settled on this

Then we started sketching it out on the canvas (16x20in.) with a pink pastel pencil because graphite could show through the paint.

It was a little bit hard to understand just from the sketch. I sent it to my mom because I was so excited about how it was going and she said "What is that??" Haha.. At that point I knew if I was going to get other people to be as excited as I was I needed to actually add some paint.

After a couple days in class it was coming along but slowly.. so then I stated to work on it after class.

Then I started to add the shadows which really helped the veggies come to life.

And then when I added on the final touches it was a finished painting.

I'm pretty proud of how it turned out, comment and let me know what you think!
