Paper Sculptures

For this 3D Design project the assignment was to create paper sculptures out of 18 x 24 sheets of paper.

The catch was that you may NOT use tape, glue, staples, or anything of that sort. You can cut the paper but can NOT cut any pieces off of the paper.

So in theory every sculpture could be disassembled and flattened out into the original piece of paper

This was our first project of the semester so it was really framed to encourage exploration of what Three-Dimensional means and how it can be created.

The first sculpture I titled Pentagon

Out of all 4 of my sculptures the class chose this one as their favorite.

The second one is titled A

We were allowed to add one letter as a graphic element to each sculpture, because of the shape of this one I decided to give it A.

I intended for it to stand up straight but it had a mind of its own and created this crazy curve!

The third paper sculpture is Grapes

Though it looks small this was a huge one! I cut the entire paper into a half inch strip and when all stretched out it went around the living room in my apartment 3 times then I curled each piece and it shrunk up to be so small.

The forth paper sculpture I call Figure 8

This was the last one I created, and the hardest because after creating the other 3 I had no idea what to do for the last one.

It was very challenging to come up with 4 ideas that were all so different from each other. A lot of paper was wasted in the creation of these 4 sculptures but I also learned a lot so hopefully that makes it worth it. :-)
